State Panel Recommends Dividends to Help Consumers
The Climate Protection Campaign has almost single-handedly conducted outreach and education on Cap and Dividend in California since 2007. We educate policy makers, stakeholders and the public with the aim of having Cap and Dividend be the top market-based solution for the Global Warming Solutions Act, AB32. Our recent work in Sacramento has been explaining the power and benefits of dividends to the Economic and Allocation Advisory Committee (EAAC) and California Air Resource Board officials. The EAAC has just released their final report. More on this story
A comprehensive, countywide retrofit/renewable program will launch in the spring to help reduce emissions in the building sector. About 40 percent of Sonoma County's greenhouse gases are associated with the electricity, natural gas, and water used in buildings.
Funding for the new program is provided by the County of Sonoma, City of Santa Rosa, and a coalition of local governments. Each contributed a portion of its federal economic stimulus to transform the local market, deliver efficiency/renewable services, and create local jobs. For more on this story
Endorsements for Sonoma County Community Climate Action Plan
Forty-two organizations representing approximately 26,000 Sonoma County residents, including the North Bay Association of Realtors, have added their support to Sonoma County’s Community Climate Action Plan. In its letter of support, the Sonoma County Alliance wrote, "We urge our members and all businesses to review and support the plan and to take a leadership role in supporting energy reduction, conservation, and transportation efficiency in Sonoma County. We also urge all nine Sonoma County cities and county government to take a coordinated approach to implementation of these aggressive goals."

The Action Plan is the "Blueprint for the Future," a package of solutions that will enable Sonoma County to achieve its greenhouse gas emission goal. The Plan was developed by 15 technical consultants, 50 community representatives, many ad hoc advisors, and staff from the Climate Protection Campaign. This Plan is considered by many to be among the most comprehensive of any local climate action plan. It is available for downloading at

Sonoma County Status Report on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Released
At the fifth annual Climate Protection Everybody Profits conference Ann Hancock, Director of the Climate Protection Campaign, delivered the annual status report of the County’s overall GHG emission performance as well as of emission trends for cities. Emissions in the County continue to rise. The data clearly demonstrate the need to implement solutions at speed and scale, like those offered in the Action Plan (www.coolplan.org), to meet our target and inspire other communities.
